AMD’s delay in unveiling RDNA 4 GPUs was purely a tactical move, as Team Red was eager to witness what NVIDIA brought to the table with the RTX 50 series release.
AMD’s RDNA 4 GPU Series Might Potentially Overthrow Competition Through Impressive Price-to-Performance Figures
Well, we were pretty surprised when Team Red didn’t give RDNA 4 the event spotlight and instead released slides that mentioned subtle details about the SKUs, such as the Radeon RX 9070 XT and the RX 9070. Despite AMD claiming that they did this in order to give the RX 9070 series a standalone showcase, Chiphell’s forum nApoleon claims that this move was a planned strategy, as the firm was waiting for what NVIDIA does with the RTX 50 “Blackwell” showcase, and come back with a stronger response.
For those unaware, the GPU markets have turned out quite differently this time, which might favor mainstream consumers instead of high-end GPU buyers. AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA are all focused on bringing a higher price-to-performance ratio with their budget-oriented offerings, which is why Team Green’s RTX 5070 has seen a drop in MSRP when compared with the Ada Lovelace counterpart. Similarly, Intel’s Arc Battlemage B580 also comes with impressive perf/$ figures, which has heated the mid-range segment massively.
With AMD, it is claimed that the RX 9070 series will “change everything” for the GPU markets, and early leaks have shown us impressive performance out of the RDNA 4 SKUs. AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT managed to beat NVIDIA’s RTX 4080 SUPER in initial testing. Considering that Team Red might release this particular SKU within the $500-$700 price range, it will ultimately become difficult for NVIDIA to pitch its GPUs to the mainstream markets, considering the value Team Red has brought onboard.
It is said that the RX 9070 series has already been shipped to retailers and is ready to be sold to consumers, but AMD’s decision to delay the release has held them back for now. Whether this move turns out the right way for Team Red is something to consider later on, but by the looks, the RX 9070 series might become a compelling option, bringing massive on-launch demand. We might see the official showcase in the upcoming days, with preorders rumored to start by 23rd January.
