der8auer reviews the NVIDIA RTX 5090 FE

So, if there’s one video to watch this weekend, no it’s not Pierre C’s, but der8auer’s. The German overclocker goes into detail about NVIDIA’s Keynote and, with the help of Joe Robey, ex-EK, they have created a 3D replica of what the NVIDIA RTX 5090 FE should look like, based on the various NVIDIA videos. The result is stunning, and should be very close to what the design of the future RTX 5090 Founders Edition will look like. Needless to say, the design required many hours of work, and this video is quite incredible!

This will give you an idea of not only the PCB design, but also the cooling system equipping the next top-of-the-range model from the Greens. Remember that this model is advertised with a TDP of 575 watts, yet we’re talking about a 2-slot board with a cooling system consisting of just two fans!

The RTX 5090 Founders Edition consists of three PCBs. Firstly, the PCB containing the graphics chip and the 16 x 2 GB GDDR7 memory chips, the power stage and the power connector. On the rear of the PCB, they identified two connectors. The first, according to them, should be the one allowing connection to PCIe 5.0, and the second, should enable connection to the video ports via a flexible cable.

der8auer also believes that NVIDIA will no longer be using thermal paste, but liquid metal, as already announced by other partners on their high-end RTX 5090 models. We know that liquid metal offers better performance, and if NVIDIA is looking to optimize the cooling of its graphics chip, this would be a perfectly logical choice.

They also noticed a bend in the radiator under each fan. This modification must certainly optimize cooling. If you look closely, each radiator fin becomes increasingly curved, from the first to the last. Keen observers will also notice a curvature on the upper part of the other side. As opposed to a traditional radiator where all the fins are identical, NVIDIA would have to assemble 58 different fins, which sounds crazy!

Once again, we’re dealing with a lot of assumptions here, even if we also think that this 3D design must be pretty close to reality. If NVIDIA has managed with this RTX 5090 Founders Edition – 2 slots – dual fan to cope with and keep cool a TDP of 575 watts, it will indeed be an incredible technical feat on the part of the greens!
