AMD Expands Zen 4 Lineup By Silently Launching Ryzen 5 7400F, A 6-Core/12-Thread CPU With Up To 4.7 GHz Clock

The Ryzen 7000 family gets another member in the Ryzen 5 series, the Ryzen 5 7400F, which is now officially live on AMD’s website.

AMD to Release Ryzen 5 7400F CPU, Featuring Similar Specifications to Ryzen 5 7500F but Lower Boost Clock

AMD is now set to launch another Zen 4 processor, and it looks like AMD might continue to expand the Zen 4 lineup just as it did with the Zen 3. While it did not announce it officially, it has quietly added a dedicated page for the “Ryzen 5 7400F” processor on the official website. This is typically a nerfed Ryzen 5 7500F processor but retains most specifications.

The Ryzen 5 7400F is a 6-core and 12-thread chip, featuring a base clock of 3.7 GHz and a boost clock of 4.7 GHz. Compared to its bigger sibling, the 7500F, the base clock is identical but the boost is 300 MHz lower. This is usually how CPU makers usually go for lower-end SKUs and the 7400F seems to be targeting the budget segment.

Ryzen 7500F is itself a budget CPU and was launched at $179. The processor still retails for around this price tag and therefore, the Ryzen 5 7400F could be targeting a price tag of between $149 and $169. A 300MHz reduced boost clock could affect apps and games by a very small margin but will be equivalent to 7500F in most scenarios since it keeps the same core/thread configuration, the same 6 MB L2 cache, 32 MB L3 cache, and even the same 65W TDP.

As its name indicates, the Ryzen 5 7400F won’t have any integrated graphics and users will require a discrete GPU solution to power their displays. The 7400F looks ideal for budget AM5 motherboards such as the B650 or even the newer B840/B850 chipset. The B840 chipset looks more appropriate for CPUs like these for users who want to save as much as possible, but do keep in mind that the B840 doesn’t allow overclocking and 7400F is an overclockable chip.

The processor product page is currently live for the AMD Germany subdomain but should appear on the “en” extension soon. This is because the specs page lists its availability as “Global”. It will be shipped with the AMD Wraith Stealth CPU cooler, so, a further cost reduction can be achieved by using this processor in a PC build.
