[CES2025] ASRock’s RX 9070 XT Taichi features a 12V-2×6!

ASRock is of course present at CES, and the brand is exhibiting a number of graphics cards. The programme includes AMD cards, with the RX 9070 XT and non-XT. But among them we have a very special model, the RTX 9070 XT Taichi, and the card features a 12V-2×6 connector, the same connector found on NVIDIA cards!

RX 9070 XT Taichi: 12V-2×6 on an AMD card!

With this Taichi model, the brand is clearly unveiling a massive card. As you can see, this top-of-the-range model (in the ASRock range) features a massive triple slot heatsink. It also benefits from a three-fan cooling system with all the usual tricks of the big cards. There’s also RGB lighting, here on the central fan, the shell and the edge of the card. On the back, the backplate is perforated, while the heatsink is oversized.

However, what catches our eye in TechpowerUp‘s photos is the card’s power connectors. While AMD has not officially made the transition to 12V-2×6, ASRock has chosen this connector. It remains to be seen why, however, as this is hardly reassuring in terms of the card’s power consumption.

In fact, in other photos showing the RX 9070 XT Steel Legend, again from ASRock, we can see that the card has three 8-pin PCIe connectors. Remember that just one of these connectors can carry up to 150W; add three and you can go up to 450W in addition to the motherboard’s 75W. Here, the 12V-2×6 technically supports 600W. The question remains as to the card’s real power consumption, especially as the Steel Legend series is not the brand’s most prestigious range. Similarly, this triple connectivity is also found on the TUF model from ASUS, which we mentioned two days ago.

In short, all this raises a few questions, and we’ll have to keep a close eye on the answers AMD gives when it officially announces its cards. Let’s hope they take the time this time.
