[CES2025] Lots of new laptops from ASUS!

CES, with its announcements from NVIDIA,AMD andIntel, is also an opportunity for partner brands to unveil their new products. On the programme, we return to ASUS to talk about their new range of gaming laptops. It includes the ROG Scar, the ROG Strix and the new-generation Zephyrus!

The ROG Strix Scar :

Clearly, if you like big configurations, you’re in for a treat, as the Scar 16/18 boasts top-of-the-range components. In fact, the processor part is entrusted to a Core Ultra 275HX, one of the best CPUs from the Blues in the Core Ultra 200HX range. It boasts 24 cores and a frequency of up to 5.4 GHz.

In addition to this CPU, the brand has opted for a very large graphics unit with a mobile RTX 5090. The card is configured to consume 175W. But there’s no need to panic, as cooling for all this is provided by a vapour chamber and a three-fan ventilation system. What’s more, the thermal interface is made of liquid metal to ensure better heat transfer.

Otherwise, on the RAM side, we find support for DDR5 with capacities of up to 64 GB at 5600 MT/s. As for storage, we have 4TB in PCIe Gen4.

Turning now to the display, we learn that ASUS is equipping its PCs with a 16:10 QHD screen, i.e. 2560×1600. What’s more, the backlighting is provided by mini-LEDs spread over 2,000 zones. Finally, you can count on flawless responsiveness with a 240 Hz frequency. Other than that, DCI-P3 coverage is 100%, while peak brightness is 1200 nits.

The Strix G16/G18 series:

With the Strix G16/G18 series, the machines also feature significant configurations based on Core Ultra 9 275HX (G615/G815) or AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX (G614) or Ryzen 9 9955HX3D (G814). On the graphics side, we’re still using new-generation NVIDIA GPUs with the RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 mobile. Once again, the system is backed up by DDR5 RAM running at 5600 MT/s, up to a maximum of 32 GB.

Of course, on a laptop, cooling is crucial, which is why we find a trio of fans blowing over a large heatsink.

As for the screen, we still have the ROG Nebula in QHD with a frequency of 240 Hz and a latency of 3 ms. Once again, DCI-P3 coverage is claimed to be 100%.

It also comes with a 1080p webcam and Dolby Atmos speakers… On a laptop , we’re curious about the result. In any case, the brand has announced that it has equipped its keyboard with additional shortcut keys for assigning macros.

Finally, the design has been worked on, with Intel PCs benefiting from luminous lighting on the base, while AMD machines have unique ROG pixels and other embellishments.

The ROG Zephyrus :

With the ROG Zephyrus, we’re hitting another target, that of gaming ultra-portables. So, forget the typical gamer look with these machines; we’re back to something more consensual. However, the configurations are not left out. You’ll find Intel Core Ultra 285H processors, AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 and even Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. As for the GPUs, once again we’ll be able to go very high, with the RTX 5090 mobile to the max – in short, it’s a blast!

The other interesting thing about ultraportables is their dimensions. This range is 1.59 cm thick for the G14, compared with 1.49 cm for the G16. In terms of weight, we’re talking about 1.5 kg and 1.85 kg respectively. As for the cooling system, the G16 benefits from a steam chamber, while the G14 has a heat pipe system. In any case, ventilation is provided by 2nd-generation Arc Flow mills.

Finally, the display is entrusted to a Nebula OLED screen whose frequency and resolution change according to the size of the laptop. The G14 is in 3K (3072×1920, we assume) at 120 Hz, while the G14 is in QHD (the ratio remains to be seen) at 240 Hz. In all cases, DCI-P3 coverage is 100%!
