Dell Alienware AW2725Q Announced with a 27″ 4K 240Hz QD-OLED panel

Dell have today announced their new Alienware AW2725Q gaming monitor, a 27″ sized (26.5″) QD-OLED screen with a 3840 x 2160 “4K” resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate. This follows on from other manufacturers who have already announced their models like the MSI MPG 272URX (hands on video available) and the Asus ROG Swift PG27UCDM (full review available) in offering a high ~166 PPI pixel density for exceptional image detail and clarity.

Dell Alienware AW2725Q Specs

The new monitor offers a 0.03ms G2G response time, 250 nits brightness (SDR), 178/178 viewing angles, 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut covering 99% DCI-P3. It’s 240Hz refresh rate is supported by adaptive-sync for VRR and has been certified under the AMD ‘FreeSync Premium Pro’, NVIDIA ‘G-Sync Compatible’ and VESA ‘AdaptiveSync’ schemes.

HDR capabilities

The screen supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR formats (like Asus’ screen too) and is certified under the VESA ‘DisplayHDR 400 True Black’ scheme. A familiar peak brightness of 1000 nits (3% APL) is available.

Connectivity options

Connectivity includes 1x DisplayPort 1.4 (with DSC) and 2x HDMI 2.1 with 4K 240Hz support, VRR and ALLM too. One HDMI connection also supports eARC sound which is a feature very uncommon in the monitor market still. So unlike the MSI and Asus offerings there is no modern DisplayPort 2.1 connection on this model which is a shame. PiP/PbP modes are supported for handling multiple input sources. There are also 3x USB data ports and 1x USB-C data port (with 15W power delivery but no DP Alt mode).

A new sleek design

As the Dell press kit puts it, the AW2725Q has an “Evocative new AW30 design in Interstellar Indigo colorway [and] comes with revamped 360-degree ventilation to keep internals cool during extended use, while a small-footprint base leaves more desk space. Simplified cable management promotes a clean desk setup.” The stand offers a full range of tilt, height, swivel and rotate ergonomic adjustments.

OLED Care

A graphite sheet placed between the panel layers helps disperse heat, which fights against burn-in and image retention. “AI-based technology” actively monitors on-screen images and makes adjustments to help prevent burn-in Dell say. The screen is backed by a 3-year Advanced Exchange Service warranty includes OLED burn-in coverage.

Pricing and availability

The AW2725Q will be priced at $899.99 USD or $1,229.99 CAD and will be available in March 2025 according to the press release. It will be available in China earlier on 22 January 2025 apparently and Europe a bit later in April 2025.
