And this game will take up quite a bit of space, so if we can play it on the Xbox Series S, we’ll definitely have to delete a game or two from the NVMe SSD.
This game has been playable elsewhere for a couple of years now, as it’s coming to PlayStation 4, PC, iOS, and Android on September 28, 2020, and then getting a native PlayStation 5 release on April 28, 2021. So we’re now three and a half years behind Microsoft’s current generation console pair, as the game was released for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 20th today. So what are we talking about here? The uncrowned king of gacha games, Genshin Impact, developed by China’s HoYoverse.
On Pure Xbox you can read that you can start preloading the game, but gamers are a little surprised by how much space Genshin Impact takes up: it takes up over 100 GB, so if you’re playing on an Xbox Series S, you’d be taking up almost a fifth of the SSD space, with 515 GB of space available for games. If you’ve got Call of Duty: Warzone installed, you may not have enough space for another AAA title, as the size of these titles grows exponentially…

Many on Reddit were surprised to see just how large the Xbox Series version of Genshin Impact is. But this is a futile disbelief, as it’s worth noting that the game is not that small elsewhere. Perhaps if you look at the Epic Games Store page for Genshin Impact, it also says that it requires 100 GB, so it’s not that it’s relatively small on PC and huge on console (although we did write yesterday that the patch size for Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, which supports 60 FPS, has a huge difference between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series…).
So Microsoft is a bit behind the times, but at least they have Genshin Impact available now.
